Biomechanics & Conditions Treating Biomechanics throughout Somerset for Many Years – But What is it? Your lower limbs are forced to deal
with periods of high stress when walking that can cause damage to the
foot if it doesn’t function properly. The analysis of this is known
as biomechanics and I will examine how your foot functions when you
walk, or during sports etc. as this can affect the rest of your body.
If you are suffering from ankle or foot pain, I have the years of
experience of treating these areas of concern and can easily get you
back on your feet in no time at all. Poor foot posture or function
can be the cause of knee, back or hip pain and so you could really
benefit from a biomechanical assessment to find the cause and treat
the symptoms correctly.
Your detailed assessment time of 1 hour to 1.5 hours will include:
Detailed history taking
None weight bearing examination
Weight bearing examination
Diagnostic foot/ankle mobilisation
testing
Balance and muscle tests
Dynamic assessment/gait analysis
Footwear appraisal – foot
orthoses or insoles could be prescribed for you if I find the need
for these following your assessment. These will be specifically
designed to help to improve you function, control and stability and
so reducing the tissue stress and symptoms causing you pain
Foot/ankle mobilisation therapy
can be used as an alternative therapy to orthoses but is often used
in combination for the most effective results. Keeping your foot
mobile will help you to break down any connective tissue
restrictions that stop your foot functioning which can cause chronic
pain and discomfort
Soft tissue mobilisation therapy
can be extremely effective when you are treating chronic muscle,
ligament and tendon pain. If you are looking for rehabilitation of
ankle sprains, Achilles tendon as well as plantar fascia and other
conditions and disorders
Biomechanical
Problems A lot of these conditions can be put
down to bad posture and will commonly result in an imbalance of the
foot or lower limbs caused by biomechanical misalignment or
abnormality which can cause:
Excessive pronation/flat feet
Excessive supination (high arch)
Posterior Tibialis Tendon
Dysfunction (PTTD)
Metatarsalgia
Plantar fasciosis
Achilles tendinopathy
Morton’s neuroma
Ankle sprains
Bunions
Arthritic foot pains
Stress fractures
Calc spures/heel pain
Tendon problems
Shin splints
Iliotibial band syndrome
Mechanical lower back, hip and
knee pain
